ACTIVITIES
Chilcabamba Lodge lies in a gentle valley circled by the rugged peaks of four towering mountains: Pasochoa, Ruminahui, Cotopaxi and Sincholagua.
The lodge is the perfect base for getting to know the magnificent surrounding countryside – on foot, horseback or bicycle. You will be able to explore a natural wonderland, sipping its crisp, refreshing air and taking in its magnificent vistas.
Exploring the Pita river, whose source is the glacial meltwater of the giant Cotopaxi volcano, is a must during a stay at Chilcabamba.
Chilcabamba is located 6kms away from the northern border of Cotopaxi National. Here, visitors can explore the famous volcano glaciers and Jose Rivas Refuge, or horseback ride inside the NationalPark, taking in views and enjoying the park’s varied wildlife.
We believe that ecotourism can be a tool to empower local people, so many of the activities provide the experience of sharing with people in the community and their lifestyle.
Here you will find a description of activities offered by our lodge:

OUR COMMITMENT
At Chilcabamba we believe that both the environment and local community should benefit from our business. This is why we try to preserve the natural treasures of the Andean páramo and work closely together with the people of our surrounding.
Sustainability means for us to reduce our carbon footprint to a minimum and create a positive impact on the social and cultural life of our community.
Our aim to reach our goals towards a more sustainable way of tourism is a continuous path of improvement.
Together with the Cotopaxi National Park we got certified by the German non-profit organization TourCert, which has set itself the task of promoting ecological, social and economic corporate responsibility in tourism.
ABOUT US
Chilcabamba is our home in the Andes, a viewpoint to the highest active volcano in the world, plus the other mountains that surround us, protect and provide us with dream landscapes and lots of peace! We love discovering new places together with our children, and we will surely be able to share with you recommendations for your next adventure.
We have been the owners for more than 5 years, but in reality we are members of a team that we are very proud to be part of. We have worked for more than 20 years in different regions, in each of them with members of the community who have guided, protected and welcomed us into their families and we have sought to translate the reality, sharing the authentic, with travelers from all over the world.
Cristina & Jascivan.

our team

José
As the manager of Chilcabamba, José masters everything – from administration to reservations, kitchen and cleaning. He has been part of Chilcabamba since 2006 and knows the area better than anyone else. José grew up here in Loreto del Pedregal and ever since loved this area which is for him the best place on earth – the land of honest and hard working people. Enjoying every day to the fullest he loves to play soccer, go for a walk and listen to music.

Eugenia
Eugenia loves to create new dishes and surprise our guests, with her delicious soups, homemade jams and freshly baked cakes. She has been part of our team since 2018. Eugenia was born in Machachi, and since she was a little girl she used to come to this area to spend her school vacations. What she likes most about Chilcabamab is the scenery, the tranquility and meeting people from other countries. She enjoys horseback riding very much.

Patricio
Patricio is our local guide for trekking tours to Rumiñahui as well as for the visits of the Cotopaxi National Park. He knows the area like the back of his hand and loves to share his knowledge and adventures.

Rafael
Rafael is our “chagra” del Pedregal, who guides all horseback rides within the Cotopaxi Nationalpark. As there are only a few guides with this permission, this is a very unique experience – sitting on the back of a horse, riding through the picturesque landscape and enjoying the wonderful view of the Cotopaxi Volcano. We are very proud to be working with him for more than 5 years.

Fabián
Our neighbor Fabian is very passionate about his animals and loves to share the experience of milking cows – a family adventure that everybody will love. In Addition he guides the tours to Pita River Waterfall and to Pasochoa Volcano. He grew up in Pedregal, so he knows the area backwards and forwards.

David
Just next door to our property lies the picturesque fish pond of the Changoluisa family, who offer trout fishing as an adventure for the whole family since 2010 years. Take a fishing rod, cast the bait and wait for the trout to bite. The pond can be reached by a short walk through the local flora and fauna towards the impressive Cotopaxi Volcano.

BIOSECURITY
Our lodge complies with the proper biosecurity protocols, and has been certified with the SAFE TRAVELS seal granted by the Ministry of Tourism, and developed by the World Travel and Tourism Council.
TESTIMONIALS
We traveled in pandemic times, so we had the lodge just for us. We liked a lot the garden with the amazing plants and the trails. We could see the giant hummingbird and other birds. The room was very clean and with nice decoration. The food-excellent. From the back yard we could see Cotopaxi. About 5km of one the park entrance.
Great location with amazing view on the volcano! Very welcoming staff and we enjoyed the dinner very much. Well, you got it, the whole family loved it! We recommend the Chilcabamba lodge and would love to go back!
I visit this place with my family (wife and a toddler) during a weekend. We have visited other alternatives nearby and this place become our favorite one. Here’s my review about it - Disconnection. You’ll be able to feel, smell, taste and hear peace. - Rooms. Comfortable, warm, and cozy - Activities. The range is huge and they are all very authentic. You can simply enjoy a marshmallow, drink coffee or visit a nearby volcano. - Kindness. You’ll find two ponchos in your room to protect you from the cold. What a nice touch! Also they will offer you a welcome canelazo! - It has a very adequate price to quality ratio - It is a family friendly place
Very friendly staff. Location is quiet and remote with easy access to Cotopaxi and local hikes (e.g. Condor Machay Cascada). The room is quaint (it has an electric wood stove). We had laundry done within 24 hours and they made lunch to-go for us twice (it included a sandwich, drink, two bars, and two pieces of fruit for very little cost). Great breakfast with an amazing view of Cotopaxi. Dinner is also very good. A local bird guide was staying there so you know it has to be reputable.
