Chilcabamba Mountain Lodge lies in a gentle valley circled by the rugged peaks of four towering mountains. It is the perfect getaway from Quito, Ecuador’s capital.
The lodge is the perfect base camp for getting to know the magnificent surrounding countryside – on foot, horseback or mountain bike. Here travelers can explore a natural wonderland, sipping its crisp, refreshing air and taking in its magnificent vistas.
Cotopaxi National Park’s northern entrance is only 6kms away from the lodge, while the lodge is only 90 minutes’ drive from Quito as well as Quito Airport.
Visitors to can explore the National Park, the famous Cotopaxi glaciers and its Jose Rivas Refuge (at 5000 mts!). Guests at Chilcabamba can become a local cowboy (aka Chagra) going on a horseback ride adventure with our local guides.
Hikes and climbs are available not only on Cotopaxi Mountain but also Ruminhaui, Sincholahua and Pasochoa. We can also arrange a multi-day lodge-to-lodge adventure. These adventures are all about taking in the views and enjoying the park’s varied wildlife that with luck could include the Andean Condor. Visits to nearby indigenous markets are available and you are free to enjoy the vast array of mountain bike terrain and trails in the region.
Last but not least, exploring the Pita River, whose source is the glacial meltwater of the giant Cotopaxi Volcano, is a must during a stay at Chilcabamba.
We believe that ecotourism can be a tool to empower local people who are the guardians of this amazing destination. It is our hope for you to meet the locals, enjoy their stories and company, and to experience the fun excursions we have put together.
