How to get to Chilcabamba
Routes and tips for visiting our lodge in Cotopaxi. Choose the option that best suits your trip.
Choose your way
All of them end in El Pedregal, at the gates of the páramo.
Private vehicle
The most direct way to get to Chilcabamba is by private car. We recommend using Google Maps or Waze and entering “Chilcabamba Mountain Lodge” as your destination.

Leave Quito on the Panamericana Sur
There are two main routes from Quito. Choose according to your vehicle and the season.

Route via Machachi (recommended)
Take the Panamericana Sur to Machachi and continue through El Pedregal toward Cotopaxi National Park. This road is almost entirely paved.

Route via Selva Alegre
More scenic, but it requires a 4×4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season.

Last 17 km from Machachi
The final stretch is a combined asphalt and gravel road to the lodge.
Remember: there is no mobile coverage at the lodge. Download the offline map before leaving Machachi.

You can reach Chilcabamba by combining buses and a short taxi ride.

From Terminal Quitumbe in Quito.

Machachi main square
There you can take a local bus to El Pedregal or a local taxi directly to the lodge.

Taxi to the lodge
The estimated fare from Machachi to Chilcabamba is about USD $20. A good option if you travel with luggage.

You can arrange additional transport or walk. Contact us in advance if you need help with this stretch.
