Private Vehicle
If you’re looking for the most direct way on how to get to Chilcabamba, driving your own car is the best option.
This is the location to get to our lodge:
The most direct way to get to Chilcabamba is by private car. We recommend using Google Maps or Waze and entering “Chilcabamba Mountain Lodge” as your destination. There are two main routes from Quito:
Route via Machachi: Take the Panamericana Sur highway to Machachi and continue through El Pedregal toward Cotopaxi National Park. This road is almost entirely paved.
Route via Selva Alegre: This is more scenic but requires a 4×4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season.
From Machachi, it is approximately 17 km to the lodge, along a combined asphalt and gravel road.
Public transport
Another popular option on how to get to Chilcabamba is by public transport, especially if you prefer not to drive.
Step-by-step:
Travel to Machachi by bus. Buses depart from Terminal Quitumbe in Quito.
Once in Machachi, go to the main square and take a local bus to El Pedregal.
From El Pedregal, take a local taxi directly to the lodge.
The estimated taxi fare from Machachi to Chilcabamba is $20 USD.
Local bus schedules:
Machachi → El Pedregal: 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
El Pedregal → Machachi: 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
From El Pedregal, you can also arrange additional transport or walk to the lodge depending on your preference. We recommend contacting us in advance if you need help coordinating this part of your trip.
